EXPERT Project Reaches Major Milestone with New Lipid Nanoparticle Carrier
The EXPERT project, which aims to develop mRNA therapies for cancer and cardiovascular diseases, has achieved a significant breakthrough. The delivery of mRNA to its target location requires a protective and efficient carrier. However, the initial design of the mRNA and lipid nanoparticle carrier was unexpectedly not successful. After this setback, the consortium completely redesigned the mRNA and developed a new proprietary lipid nanoparticle carrier.
Lipid nanoparticle carriers encapsulate bioactive molecules, including drugs, within a lipid matrix. This protects the molecules and allows for targeted delivery to specific tissues or organs. We are thrilled to announce that the new formulation is performing as intended and is ready for industrial exploitation. The project is now focusing on industrial manufacturing, scale-up, and GLP/toxicology studies. We are actively seeking partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for clinical phase development.
