EXPERT Partner UMC Utrecht Launches New Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies

At the end of May, UMC Utrecht celebrated the grand opening of the Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies (ICAT) located at the Utrecht Science Park. As a top-of-the-line innovation space, the ICAT aims to support clinicians, academic institutions and small, medium, and large commercial organisations worldwide with the final steps to improve and accelerate the translation of research into healthcare solutions. It brings together all relevant expertise and infrastructure for the development of regenerative treatments, Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) including cell therapy and disease models.

For this, a GMP simulation ("Good Manufacturing Practice") and GMP production facility were built at the Zeist location. The GMP production facility provides the production of ATMPs according to GMP (for ATMP)-guidelines and under ICAT's manufacturer license.

The state-of-the-art Cleanroom Facility will ultimately consist of 6 cleanrooms and will be well equipped with a large variety of validated equipment. This provides sufficient capacity for projects to move towards clinical application without delay. Because of the flexibility in design, the facility is able to harbor new types of equipment rapidly.
